Scientology a criminal crock: Xenophon
© ABC 16th November, 2009:
Independent Senator Nick Xenophon has used a speech in Parliament to raise allegations of widespread criminal conduct within the Church of Scientology.
Senator Xenophon says he has received letters from former followers of the religion detailing claims of crimes and abuses.
He says he has passed on the letters to the police and is calling for a Senate inquiry into the religion and its tax exempt status.
“Do you want Australian tax exemptions to be supporting an organisation that coerces its followers into having abortions? Do you want to be supporting an organisation that defrauds, that blackmails, that falsely imprisons?” he asked.
“Because on the balance of evidence provided by victims of scientology you probably are.”
Senator Xenophon told Parliament the Church of Scientology is a criminal organisation that hides behind its “so-called religious beliefs”.

The Church of Scientology says allegations made in Federal Parliament by Independent Senator Nick Xenophon are an abuse of parliamentary privilege.
Senator Xenophon used a speech in Parliament last night to raise allegations of widespread criminal conduct within the church, saying he had received letters from former followers detailing claims of abuse, false imprisonment and forced abortion.
He says he has passed on the letters to the police and is calling for a Senate inquiry into the religion and its tax-exempt status.
“I am deeply concerned about this organisation and the devastating impact it can have on its followers,” he told the Senate.
A spokeswoman for the church, Virginia Stewart, says she is shocked to hear Senator Xenophon’s claims, as no-one within the church seems disgruntled.
“If these people had key issues, then how come they haven’t contacted the church officially?” she said.
It was Scientology that first bandied the term “drug free” as their “drug free ambassadors for a drug free Australia” lied splendidly in a seeming slur toward psychiatry, psychology and their overlap with medicine.
The irony for yours truly is that Festival of Light and Christian Democrat Party Fifth Columnist, Ann Bressington, now pushes Evidence Free/Drug Free ideology onto unsuspecting Aussies from S.A. Parliament. Ann was elected alongside Nick – and solely because of Nick. She has since returned his loyalty by abusing and attacking him in public media. Why? Money. She wants Nick to give her some. Bressington assumes she is deserving of money, because policies designed to prevent the spread of HIV and Hepatitis get money and her friends dangerous yet biblically correct guesswork does not. She also claims Nick cost her money after promising a stroll into the sunset. Maybe Nick realised what an anchor dragging career stopper Ann really is.
Ann founded a treatment facility that actively seeks to sabotage existing – and proven – evidence based approaches. Sadly, between cigarettes, Ann abuses her role in parliament to nudge business toward the faith healing and disproved techniques this group favours. She’s a fraud and a bully unfortunately in a position to harm uncounted Australians – as already shown via the infamous ‘bong ban’.
This propaganda stunt resulted in chemical cocktails of vinyl chloride, glues, solvents, heavy metals, heated rubber garden hoses and all that constitutes a home made bong inhaled where once cannabis only was inhaled. Her abuse of innocent Australians and exploitation of god-botherin’ foot soldiers via her role in politics is a repugnance of towering immorality.
The Chair of Drug Free Australia is ex [yet promoted as current] magistrate and religious zealot, Craig Thompson. He contributed to the deaths and near death of innocent human beings, as a knife wielding Scientologist was released at his command. In DFA Land only illicit drugs make one ill. Indeed, the same drug procured via legal or illegal means has different effects. Using medication to treat any illness is not “drug free”, thus is not worthy of acknowledgment.
The extent of crime perpetrated by “drug free” bullies is immense. Let us hope this encourages more Australians to demand evidence from those who pretend to have magical solutions, yet leave tragedy in their wake.
Is there a religious angle here, that I should be addressing? No. These groups use the default respect, and tax exemptions afforded religions to gain power, money and societal control.
But, you already know that.
Human Rights not Religious Rites.
Thank-you Nick.
