Whatever your opinion of Dick Smith, “science”, conspiracy theories or whatever, consider the pragmatic angle. Working parents already know the challenges of adequate child care and those pangs of anxiety when our loved ones are ill. Employers make concessions because they understand raising a healthy, happy family is not a “luxury”. However, if you consciously decide to inflict preventable diseases [such as Chicken Pox, below] on your child, then expect time off to “manage” an unnecessary recovery, then another, and another, and…, I’d imagine your employer would have an excellent case to argue for an exemption from anti-discrimination legislation.
