‘Anti vaccination’ harms submitted to HCCC
Previously we’ve looked at science and vaccineophobia. A complaint has now been submitted to the Health Care Complaints Commission regarding the Australian Vaccination Network.
The subject of the complaint is one Meryl Dorey. Some of you may remember the name following media attention over the death of baby Dana McCaffrey from Whooping cough. You can check the videos of the “Sunday Night”* programmes below.

Much as ‘Drug Free Australia’ lobby against epidemiology, progressive policy and seek to sabotage “immoral” practices under the banner of “Australias Peak Body”, the authoritative sounding AVN is stridently anti-vaccination and preys upon parental guilt, community ignorance, the obsession with all things “natural” to promote intuitively sounding safe ideas such as “chemically free” and collates an abundance of USA initiated junk science themes.
Harm Minimisation prevents lethal diseases. Always controversial for asking us to tolerate others, the fact tens of thousands of deaths is the only possible outcome to ignoring viral control, is of no moment to true devotees. I’ve made this comparison as regular readers may by now be familiar with selfish scams that just happen to be profitable to those peddling junk science.
Vaccination also prevents lethal diseases. Failure to vaccinate children is a very unique type of child abuse in that parents most often believe they are doing the correct thing. In a similar way, opponents of harm minimisation honestly believe data debunking “faith based education” is simply a challenge to their faith.

Nobel laureate Professor Peter Doherty, delivered the keynote address at Melbourne's 2009 Festival of Ideas, hosted by Melbourne University. Professor Doherty said there that Childhood Vaccination Denial is a “Crime Against Humanity.” Professor Doherty AC is a researcher in the field of medicine. He received the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research in 1995, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1996, and was named Australian of the Year in 1997.
It is hard to not agree with Professor Doherty. 10,000 people die every day of AIDS, 26 million have died since we isolated the cause and 45 million live with a disease Australias ‘drug-free’ movement suggests is not reduced via syringe exchange and is “linked to condoms”. Earlier we reviewed the initial struggle against homophobia and opposition to consensual sex at the instigation of Harm Minimisation in 1985. Today, it is the drug using community labelled as the ‘boogey-man’.
Similarly the hideously cruel spectre of Whooping cough is demoted to “just a bad cough”, polio stands ready to make a comeback to match the abundance of measles cases we see arising in “alternative lifestyle” communities. You may access a copy of the complaint here. If you agree with its argument you can write to:

Complaints of your own submission are most welcome and require you download a form from here. Please pop in any qualifications and feel welcome to email a copy to admin@atheistage.org, so I can inform the complaint author.
Any and all help is welcome. Please note, this is not just a jaunt specific to this blog. An extraordinary amount of time, money and hard work from those who have their own lives to manage is required to bring these projects to fruition.
Many thanks.
